Also, it is the only Semitic language that is written in the Latin script. Maltese is an autonomous language that greatly influenced by its neighboring countries. Moreover, Maltese has been undergone different changes and stages of development over the centuries from Arabic, Italy, English, and French. The object of this paper is to present a brief overview of Maltese and its history and to provide the linguistic changes in its long history. These historical changes are mainly focusing on three aspects: sounds change, phonological change, and morphological change.
